Saturday First Update

By Alex Dodt
A huge upset in Midget and an incredible comeback in Mite have been the highlights of the day so far.

Midget Elite:
Well, right off the bat, I'd like to take back everything I said yesterday. So much for the Battle For Second Place in Midget Elite. AKS Mission 88 was upset just moments ago in overtime by the 4th seed Western Capitals. It was an incredible game, the Capitals kept it close playing a great zone defense then got a late goal to force overtime. In the extra period, Taylor Kane sniped one crossbar and in to pull off the stunner. Looks like playing without Loren Barron, who was suspended for the game, might have come back to haunt AKS. There's always next weekend for AKS where they are the hands down favorite to win the Junior division. I will stop short of predicting them to win it though after what happened today. Now, the division is wide open with the Capitals, who lost all 3 of their games yesterday, in the championship game awaiting the winner of Sin City Snipers vs. Rollerplex Panthers. That game will start here in a minute. Now that the mighty AKS has fallen, anyone could win Midget Elite.

Mite:
The Mites are also finishing up their round robin games now, playoffs will start tomorrow. The best Mite game of the day was Las Vegas Raptors vs. Western Capitals White. The Capitals took a strong 3 goal lead late in the game but the Raptors started the late comeback, scoring with 9.8 seconds left to make it a 5-4 game. Then off the faceoff, a bouncing puck ended up on the stick of a Raptors player who fired it towards the net, it went off a skate or 2 and found its way into the net with 0.7 seconds left to end the game in a tie. It was absolutely crazy.

PeeWee:
After those 2 amazing games its easy to forget there's some other good hockey going on. PeeWee A Select has started up and there's still too much hockey left to be played in that division to tell who's going to come out on top. So far, Revision Devil Dogs, RBK Samurai, and AKS Mission 93 all look pretty good. PeeWee AA Select has also started and its playoff matchups are all set for tomorrow. Team Excalibur 92 will play the Force, the winner of that game plays the top seeded RBK Bulldogs Black in one semifinal. In the other semifinal, its already set with San Diego Selects 92 playing Mission Militia 93.

Midget Select:
This divisions finishing up here real soon. Las Vegas Aces matchup with Water City Serpents in one playoff game, Anarchy 949 plays RBK Samurai in the other playoff. Mission Raiders and RBK Bulldogs are the top 2 seeds and they await the winners in the semifinals.

Alright, well check back here later on tonight for one more update on Saturday's action. I'm gonna get back to the rink before I miss another ridiculous comeback or upset.
