Finals Day 2 wrap-up

By Alex Dodt
Western Capitals and Mission Raiders are crowned the first Pacific Cup champions of the year.

Midget Elite:
Sin City Snipers knocked off the Rollerplex Panthers 4-2 in the semifinals to earn a spot in the Final against Western Capitals. The Capitals jumped all over Sin City early on, taking a 4-1 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Cameron Monahan. Slowly though, Sin City got back in the game. After a few clutch goals the lead was down to 5-3 for the Capitals with a few minutes left. Capitals' goalie Gabe List came up huge in the final minutes with some great saves on the penalty kill though and they held off the Snipers, adding an empty netter to win the game 6-3 and take home the Midget Elite championship. What a crazy tournament for the Capitals. They lost all 3 of their round robin games, then turned it around to pull off the incredible upset of AKS 88 before beating Sin City in the championship game. Good job to those guys, definitely wouldn't have predicted this ending...

Midget Select:
Mission Raiders squeaked one out in the semifinals, beating Water City Serpents 5-4. In the other semifinal, Anarchy 949 upset the RBK Bulldogs Black 5-4, setting up an Anarchy-Raiders final. Anarchy 949 jumped out to a 2-0 lead early on, but the Raiders stayed in control and chipped away at the lead. With a minute and a half left, the comeback was completed when the Raiders scored to make it 3-2. Taz Gohr made some clutch saves and Joey Crawford would add 2 empty netters to make the final score 5-2 as Jim Irwin's Raiders took home the Midget Select title.

Mite:
The Las Vegas Raptors, fresh off their incredible comeback against the Western Capitals earlier today, had the same thing happen to them when they played Tour OC Blades 96. With only 10 seconds left, OC Blades 96 tied the game up at 3, stunning the Raptors. This division finishes round robin games tomorrow morning, then splits into Mite A, AA Select, and AA Elite for playoffs.

That's all there's time for tonight, gotta get to bed so I can get up and go to the rink early. Check back tomorrow for a few more updates as 8 more teams will walk out of the rink as Pacific Cup champions. Mite A, Mite AA, PeeWee A, PeeWee AA, and PeeWee AAA championships are all on the line tomorrow. It should be a pretty exciting day. See you at the rink.

Alex
