Third day wrap-up
By Alex Dodt
| Classic Bantam AAA Final goes into OT and 2 Squirt teams take home a championship cup
A ton of action going on today, here's how it went, first the 3 championship games that happened today:
Bantam AAA
This division was awesome. Tour OC Blades 90 beat Tour Outcasts 91 in the playoff game 3-0. Then, in the semifinals, OC Blades 90 lost to Western Capitals 2-1 and Velocity won 5-2 against Sin City Snipers 90. This set up a championship game of Western Capitals, a team with some of the best 90's in California, against Velocity, some of the best 91's in California. KC Groon of the Capitals opened up the scoring with a powerplay goal early with an assist from Joey Doran. The score would stay at 1-0 at the half. Then, with 8 minutes left in the game, Doran sniped a slapshot on the powerplay to make it 2-0. Velocity did not panic though and with 7 minutes left, Dakota Eveland scored on the powerplay to make it 2-1. Velocity controlled most of the rest of the game and Jordan Thomas deflected in a shot by Eveland with 1:47 left to tie it up. With 1:24 left, KC Groon went to the penalty box for holding and Velocity went on the powerplay. Capitals goalie Darryl Newsome came up huge though, stopping Taylor Aronson all alone in front with a beautiful glove save with 2 seconds left and then making a kick save on Eveland's shot at the buzzer. The game went into overtime and the Capitals killed off the end of Groon's penatly. Shortly after the game returned to even strength, Brett Olinger snapped a shot from above the face off circles through a screen and the puck went off the post and in, making Velocity the 2007 Bantam AAA champions. This is the 2nd year in a row Velocity has won Pacific Cup championship in OT after winning PeeWee AAA last year.
Squirt AA Select
Western Capitals Red squeaked one out against Mission Arizona Stars Red to get into the semifinals then knocked off the top seeded Bandits to get into the championship game. Arizona Phlyers beat RBK Bulldogs 3-2 in the other semifinal. The championship game was all Capitals as they finished off their great run to win the Squirt AA Select title in a 6-2 victory.
Squirt AA Elite
This division had one of the most exciting games of the weekend. It matched up the 2nd seed RBK Patriots against the 3rd seed Tour OC Blades White. The game stayed tied through 24 minutes of regulation and then all the way into a second overtime period before the Patriots put one in to end the marathon match. That game may have hurt the Patriots though when it came time for the championship game. The top seeded Tour OC Blades 95 were rested and waiting for the Patriots and the Blades were dominant, shutting out the Patriots 4-0 and winning the AA Elite cup.
These other divisions will be finishing up tomorrow...
Squirt A
